THE LINK COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT www.lcd.org.uk

The project started as a small Cambridge University studnet society called LINK AFRICA in 1989. In 1995 the charity was formally established in both the UK and South Africa, followed by LCD Ghana, LCD Uganda and LCD Malawi.

In 10 years the LCD was worked with over 15000 schools, helping over half a million children get a better education.

The Global Teachers Programme is made possible by funding from the HSBC Education Trust and is also supported by DflD, DfES, the Scottish Executive and others. Details of the scheme are described in a pdf document - find this via search engine "Global Teachers".

Carol in Umtata






Carol is going to South Africa for five weeks during the summer 2006. As a teacher she has joined the LINK program connecting schools in the UK with schools in developing countries.

Umtata is a small area of central East Cape, her link school far in land. This picture shows her host family.
